About the Motorola Moto G30

The Moto G30 was Motorola's value pick of early 2021, and five years on it survives mainly as a cheap, dependable spare or first phone rather than a daily driver. What made it stand out at launch still reads well: a 90Hz screen and a 5,000mAh battery were genuinely rare at this end of the market, and the Snapdragon 662 was quick enough that scrolling and messaging never felt like a chore. Motorola also kept the practical bits most rivals had already dropped - a headphone jack, a dedicated microSD slot and a rear fingerprint reader that works first time. The trade-offs are the ones you would expect. The screen is only 720p, so text looks soft next to a 1080p panel, and the 64MP camera needs good light to produce anything worth keeping. The bigger issue today is software: the G30 reached Android 12 and its security update window closed years ago, which rules it out for banking or anything sensitive. Buy it as a knockabout second handset, not as your main phone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Motorola Moto G30 worth buying in 2026?
Only as a cheap secondary or backup phone. The 5,000mAh battery, 90Hz display and headphone jack still make it usable day to day, but it stopped receiving Android security updates some time ago, so it is not a sensible choice for banking or work email.
Does the Motorola Moto G30 have a headphone jack and microSD slot?
Yes to both. The Moto G30 has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSDXC card slot, though the card shares a tray with the second SIM. That makes it easy to expand the 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage with your own card.
How long does the Motorola Moto G30 battery last?
The 5,000mAh battery comfortably clears a full day and often stretches into a second on light use, helped by the power-efficient 720p screen. Charging is 15W or 20W depending on the model, so a full top-up takes a couple of hours rather than minutes.
Does the Motorola Moto G30 have 5G?
No. The Moto G30 is a 4G LTE handset only, so it connects at 4G speeds on every UK network. If 5G matters to you, look at a newer Moto G model instead.
Is the Motorola Moto G30 camera any good?
It is acceptable in daylight and struggles after dark. The 64MP main sensor captures decent detail outdoors, but the 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lenses are noticeably weaker, and video tops out at 1080p with no 4K option.
What is the difference between the Moto G30 and the Moto G10?
The G30 is the faster of the two 2021 siblings, pairing a Snapdragon 662 with a 90Hz display, a 64MP main camera and quicker charging. The G10 uses a slower Snapdragon 460, a standard 60Hz screen and a 48MP camera, though both share the same body, 6.5-inch 720p panel and 5,000mAh battery.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
