About the Motorola Moto G23

The Moto G23 sits in the middle of Motorola's 2023 budget trio, above the Moto G13 and below the 5G-capable G53, and it earns its place mainly through the extras. Unlike the Moto G13 beneath it, it includes an ultrawide camera and a 16MP selfie camera, and it charges at 30W rather than 20W, which makes a real difference when you are topping up before heading out. Elsewhere it follows the familiar budget Motorola recipe: a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD that runs at 90Hz for smoother scrolling, a Helio G85 chipset that is fine for messaging, streaming and social apps but not for demanding games, and a 5,000mAh battery that comfortably sees out a day. Motorola's near-stock Android is one of the cleaner budget interfaces, and the practical touches are all here: a dedicated microSD slot, a headphone jack, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and FM radio. The catch is connectivity, since this is a 4G-only handset with no 5G support.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Moto G23 worth buying?
The Moto G23 is worth buying if you want a clean Android experience, long battery life and useful extras like an ultrawide camera and 30W charging without paying for 5G. The HD+ screen and Helio G85 chipset show their limits with games and detailed video, so it suits light, everyday use best.
Does the Moto G23 have 5G?
No, the Moto G23 is a 4G LTE phone only. If 5G matters to you, look at Motorola's 5G-capable models from the same period, as the G23 was positioned as the 4G option in the range.
Does the Moto G23 have a headphone jack and microSD slot?
Yes to both. The Moto G23 keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio and a dedicated microSDXC card slot, so you can expand storage without giving up the second SIM. It also has stereo speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos.
Is the Moto G23 camera good?
The Moto G23 pairs a 50MP main camera with a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor, plus a 16MP selfie camera. Daylight shots are respectable for a budget phone, but there is no optical stabilisation and video is capped at 1080p at 30fps.
How long does the Moto G23 battery last?
The Moto G23's 5,000mAh battery paired with a low-resolution HD+ screen and the efficient Helio G85 chipset comfortably covers a full day of typical use, and often more. It charges at up to 30W, which is quick for this class of phone.
What is the difference between the Moto G23 and the Moto G13?
Both launched on the same day with the same 6.5-inch 90Hz HD+ screen, Helio G85 chipset and 5,000mAh battery. The Moto G23 adds a 5MP ultrawide camera, upgrades the selfie camera from 8MP to 16MP, offers an 8GB RAM option and charges at 30W rather than 20W. Compare Moto G13 deals.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
