About the Motorola Edge 70 Plus

Motorola announced the Edge 70 Plus at IFA in Berlin on 3 September 2026, and it went on sale in the UK through Motorola's own store on 23 September as a single 8GB and 256GB model. The UK retailers and networks whose deals we compare have not listed it yet. It uses the same Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip and 6.78-inch 144Hz AMOLED, rated at 5,200 nits peak, as the Edge 70 Fusion, so the differences are in the camera, battery and body. The main camera is a 200MP sensor with optical stabilisation, but the only other rear camera is a 2MP macro, so there is no ultrawide for landscapes or group shots. The 6,500mAh battery charges at 45W, slower than the Fusion's 68W, and there is no wireless charging. The design is the real selling point: the body curves on all four sides front and back, with textured Pantone finishes on the rear. Motorola has given up some toughness for that look. IP64 covers dust and splashes but not submersion, where the Fusion is rated IP68 and IP69. Security updates are listed until September 2031.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Motorola Edge 70 Plus worth buying?
It is worth considering if you want a comfortable, distinctive-looking phone with a big battery and a bright screen. The trade-offs are real, though: there is no ultrawide camera, water resistance is only IP64, charging is 45W with no wireless option, and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is a mid-range chip. If durability or an ultrawide matters more than design, the Edge 70 Fusion covers both.
Is the Motorola Edge 70 Plus available in the UK?
Yes. It went on sale through Motorola's UK store on 23 September 2026 in one configuration, 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage, in Pantone Gray Lilac, Mountain View and Milky Blue. The UK retailers and networks we compare have not listed it yet, and contract deals will appear on this page once they do.
Does the Motorola Edge 70 Plus have an ultrawide camera?
No. The rear cameras are a 200MP main camera at f/1.8 with optical stabilisation and a 2MP macro camera, with a 32MP selfie camera on the front. If you want an ultrawide, the Edge 70 Fusion has a 13MP one and the Edge 70 has a 50MP one.
Is the Motorola Edge 70 Plus waterproof?
No. It is rated IP64, which means it is dust-tight and protected against splashes and light rain, but Motorola says it is not designed to be submerged or exposed to pressurised water. It is MIL-STD-810H tested for drops and temperature extremes, and the screen is covered by Gorilla Glass 7i.
How long will the Motorola Edge 70 Plus get updates?
It ships with Android 16 and is listed with three major Android upgrades. Motorola's UK specification lists security updates for five years, until September 2031. That is shorter than the seven years Samsung and Google offer on their phones, which matters if you keep a handset for a long time.
Should I buy the Motorola Edge 70 Plus or the Edge 70 Fusion?
Both use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and a 6.78-inch 144Hz screen rated at 5,200 nits. The Edge 70 Plus adds a 200MP main camera, a 6,500mAh battery and a more premium quad-curved finish. The Edge 70 Fusion has an ultrawide camera, faster 68W charging, IP68 and IP69 water resistance and a lighter body. Pick the Fusion if you want the tougher, more versatile phone. Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
