About the Motorola Edge 20 Pro

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro was Motorola's attempt at a flagship experience without flagship compromise, and the part that has aged best is the camera reach. It is one of the few phones in its class to fit a periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom, which means you can actually photograph a stage, a building across the street or a pet on the far side of the garden without the image dissolving into mush. Underneath sits the Snapdragon 870, a chip that was deliberately chosen over the hotter flagship silicon of the day and which remains comfortably quick for everything short of the most demanding games. The 144Hz OLED panel is shared with the standard Edge 20, and Motorola's Ready For desktop mode lets you drive an external display for light productivity work. The compromises show elsewhere: there is no headphone jack or expandable storage, the 4,500mAh battery is decent rather than outstanding, and Motorola's support ended with Android 13. It suits someone who wants zoom and speed from a used or clearance handset.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Motorola Edge 20 Pro worth buying?
The Motorola Edge 20 Pro is worth buying second-hand or on clearance if you want a 5x periscope zoom and Snapdragon 870 performance without paying flagship money. Be aware that it launched on Android 11 and received its final major update with Android 13, so no further Android versions are coming. Anyone who needs long-term software support should look at a newer model.
How good is the Motorola Edge 20 Pro camera?
The standout is the 8MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom and OIS, which is genuinely useful and rare at this level. The 108MP main sensor produces detailed daylight shots, while the 16MP ultrawide doubles as a macro lens. Night photography is the weak spot compared with true flagships of the same era.
Does the Motorola Edge 20 Pro have a headphone jack or microSD slot?
No to both. The Edge 20 Pro has no 3.5mm headphone jack and no microSD card slot, so you rely on USB-C or Bluetooth audio and whichever of the 128GB or 256GB storage tiers you choose. If those features matter, the Edge 20 Lite keeps both.
What is Ready For on the Motorola Edge 20 Pro?
Ready For is Motorola's desktop mode. Connect the Edge 20 Pro to a monitor or TV via USB-C, or wirelessly to a compatible display, and you get a windowed desktop interface for browsing, video calls and gaming on a big screen.
How long does the Motorola Edge 20 Pro battery last?
The 4,500mAh battery reliably covers a full day of mixed use, and lasts longer if you let the 144Hz display drop to a lower refresh rate automatically. 30W TurboPower charging brings it back up quickly, though it is slower than the fastest chargers now on the market.
Should I get the Motorola Edge 20 Pro or the standard Edge 20?
The Pro is the better performer, with the Snapdragon 870 instead of the 778G, a 4,500mAh battery instead of 4,000mAh, 5x periscope zoom instead of 3x, and RAM options up to 12GB. The standard Edge 20 is dramatically slimmer and lighter at 6.99mm and 163g versus 8.0mm and 190g. Choose the Pro for capability, the standard model for comfort.
