About the Huawei P40 Pro
The Huawei P40 Pro was the last of Huawei's great camera phones before the company's UK presence faded, and as a piece of imaging hardware it still holds up. The 50MP main sensor is unusually large for its era and pulls in enough light that night shots need no special mode to look clean, while the 5x periscope telephoto reaches further than almost anything else from 2020. The 6.58-inch 90Hz OLED curves on all four edges, which looks striking but does invite accidental touches. Build quality is genuinely flagship: IP68, a 4,200mAh battery, 40W wired charging and 27W wireless. The catch is unavoidable and it is a big one. Because of US sanctions, the P40 Pro shipped without Google Mobile Services, so there is no Play Store, no Gmail app and no Google Maps out of the box, only Huawei's AppGallery. Many mainstream UK apps, particularly banking apps, simply will not install. It is a superb camera in a phone that most people should no longer treat as their only device.

Is the Huawei P40 Pro worth buying in 2026?
Only for a specific kind of buyer. The camera hardware, screen and build still compare well with far newer mid-range phones, but the lack of Google Mobile Services means no Play Store and no easy access to many UK banking, streaming and transport apps. It also stopped receiving Android version upgrades years ago, so it is best treated as a secondary camera device rather than a main phone.

No. It uses Huawei's proprietary Nano Memory (NM) card format instead, supporting cards up to 256GB. NM cards are harder to find and generally more expensive than standard microSD, so it is worth choosing a higher internal storage tier of 256GB or 512GB where possible.
