About the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is Samsung's clamshell foldable at its most polished, and also its most cautious. Almost everything that mattered about the Flip7 carries over: the same 6.9-inch inner screen, the same 4.1-inch cover display that runs full apps rather than widgets, the same 4,300mAh battery. What Samsung has done instead is shave the phone down. It is 8g lighter and thinner both open and shut, which counts for more than it sounds on a device whose whole appeal is disappearing into a pocket. The hinge opens more smoothly, and a titanium layer under the panel is meant to stop the crease deepening with age. UK models run the 2nm Exynos 2600, and that is where the real gain shows up: battery life is comfortably better than the Flip7's from an identical cell, though the compact body throttles hard under sustained load. The cameras are untouched, so photography is dependable rather than a match for slab flagships. Flip7 owners have little reason to move, but as a first flip phone this is the most sorted version yet.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 worth buying?
Yes, if you want a compact foldable and are coming from an older phone. It is the thinnest and lightest Flip Samsung has made, lasts longer per charge than the Flip7 despite the same 4,300mAh battery, and the 4.1-inch cover screen handles most quick tasks without opening the phone. Flip7 owners should skip it, because the display, cameras and battery capacity are unchanged.
What is the difference between the Galaxy Z Flip8 and the Galaxy Z Flip7?
The Flip8 is thinner at 6.1mm unfolded and 13.1mm folded, against 6.5mm and 13.7mm on the Flip7, and 8g lighter at 180g. It moves to the 2nm Exynos 2600 in the UK, raises peak brightness on both screens to 3,000 nits, and adds a Flex Titanium layer under the display. Screen sizes, cameras and battery capacity are identical.
Which processor does the UK Galaxy Z Flip8 use?
UK and European units use Samsung's own Exynos 2600, built on a 2nm process. Only North American and Chinese models get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Exynos version posts strong efficiency and battery results, but the small chassis limits how long it can hold peak performance during gaming or long video recording.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 waterproof?
It carries an IP48 rating, so it is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and can survive immersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes. The 4 in that rating means it is not fully dust-tight, which is the usual trade-off for a hinge. Avoid sand, dust and saltwater.
How good is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 camera?
The 50MP main camera with optical stabilisation and 12MP ultrawide are carried over unchanged from the Flip7, so photos are good rather than class-leading, and there is no telephoto lens. The genuine advantage is selfies: because you can frame with the rear cameras on the cover screen, your self-portraits use the good sensor rather than the 10MP front camera.
How long will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 receive updates?
Samsung promises seven major Android versions and seven years of security patches from launch. It ships with Android 17 and One UI 9, so it should stay current into 2033. That is the same commitment Samsung makes on its Galaxy S flagships.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
