Giffgaff has refreshed its goodybag range for the first time in over a year, boosting data allowances on its most popular tiers and introducing a new £6 entry-level option aimed at budget-conscious customers. The changes took effect on 5 February 2026 and apply to both new and existing members with no action required.

The MVNO, owned by O2-parent Virgin Media O2, has faced mounting pressure from rivals like Smarty and Lebara which have been aggressively cutting SIM-only pricing throughout 2025. The goodybag refresh is Giffgaff's response.

Key changes

  • New £6 Starter goodybag: Giffgaff's cheapest ever pay-monthly option, aimed at smartwatch pairing, second devices and low-usage customers
  • 50% more data on £8 bag: Rising from 4GB to 6GB, directly targeting Smarty's similar plan
  • 33% more on £12 bag: The most popular Giffgaff plan gets a healthy bump to 20GB
  • Unlimited Golden stays at £35: No change to Giffgaff's unlimited data bag

Network coverage and speeds

Giffgaff uses the O2 network for coverage and data, including access to 5G. Members get speeds capped at no specific ceiling - Giffgaff has never imposed the download speed caps that Smarty and some other O2 MVNOs use. That's a meaningful differentiator for anyone relying on mobile data for streaming or home broadband backup.

EU roaming is included at no extra cost on all goodybags, with a 5GB monthly fair-use cap. For travellers, that's a useful perk that some UK networks have rolled back since Brexit.

How Giffgaff compares to rivals

Here's how the new Giffgaff lineup stacks up against direct rivals at similar price points:

Monthly priceGiffgaffSmartyLebaraiD Mobile

Smarty still wins on raw data-per-pound at higher price points, but Giffgaff's community-first approach, Payback rewards and better customer service ratings continue to justify the premium for many subscribers.

How to switch goodybags

Existing Giffgaff members can switch to the new goodybags immediately from the Giffgaff app or website. New members signing up today get the new allowances automatically. Goodybags are single-month commitments with no contract, so you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time.
