Pros & cons

Pros

  • EE network quality at very competitive pricing, with Essential Max at five pounds per month for 10GB on 4G for new customers
  • Bundle savings across mobile, broadband, energy, and insurance on a single bill, with an optional Cashback Card earning up to 10% at 55+ retailers
  • Consistently among the least complained-about landline providers in Ofcom's quarterly reporting
  • Rolling 30-day contracts with no long-term lock-in, and eSIM available to established customers
  • Family-friendly with additional Unlimited Max SIMs at ten pounds per month each

Cons

  • SIM-only only with no phone contracts or handset sales, requiring customers to buy devices separately
  • Very limited plan choice with only two tariffs and a large gap between 10GB and unlimited, nothing for moderate data users
  • Unlimited data is capped at 14GB when roaming in the EU, lower than some competitors
  • Primarily distributed through self-employed Partners using a network marketing model which some customers may find off-putting

Utility Warehouse Overview

Utility Warehouse is the UK's only genuine multi-utility provider, bundling mobile, broadband, energy, and home insurance onto a single monthly bill. The company is part of FTSE 250-listed Telecom Plus PLC with more than 1.4 million customers, and its mobile service runs on EE's network.

UW Mobile stands out through its bundle savings model. Adding mobile to other UW services unlocks greater discounts across the entire household bill, plus access to a Cashback Card that earns up to 10% at over 50 retailers including Aldi, IKEA, Argos, and Boots. The cashback is automatically applied to reduce your UW bill.

The mobile plans themselves are simple and competitive, with the Essential Max offering 10GB on EE for just five pounds per month and Unlimited Max providing unlimited 5G data. All plans are 30-day rolling with no long-term lock-in.

Coverage & Speed

Utility Warehouse provides coverage through EE's network, the largest in the UK. EE uses legacy T-Mobile and Orange frequencies giving broad national coverage with 4G reaching 99% of the UK population. Coverage is identical to direct EE customers.

Plans & Pricing

UW Mobile offers two SIM-only plans on 30-day rolling contracts: Essential Max at five pounds per month with 10GB, and Unlimited Max at twenty-three pounds per month with unlimited 5G data. Additional Unlimited Max SIMs cost ten pounds each.

Roaming

EU roaming is included on the Unlimited Max plan with a 14GB monthly data cap across EU and EEA destinations. The Essential Max plan uses the standard 10GB UK allowance while roaming. An overall data roaming spend cap of 54 pounds per month applies.

Our Verdict

Utility Warehouse mobile makes most sense as part of the broader UW ecosystem rather than as a standalone mobile provider. The Essential Max at five pounds per month for 10GB on EE is genuinely excellent value, and the family multi-SIM pricing is hard to beat. The zero Ofcom complaint record is impressive.

The bundle model with Cashback Card creates compound savings that are difficult for standalone mobile providers to match, though the benefit only materialises when you commit to multiple UW services. The limited plan choice and network marketing distribution model may put off some customers.

For households already considering UW for broadband or energy, adding mobile is an easy win. For mobile-only shoppers, the Essential Max is competitive on its own merits, but the gap between the two plan tiers means moderate data users have no ideal option.

UW does not sell phone contracts with handsets. Customers taking a bundle of three or more services can claim up to 400 pounds of credit towards early termination fees charged by a previous provider, excluding home insurance. Additional requirements apply to customers who are tenants.

SIM Only

Essential Max provides 10GB data with unlimited calls and texts for five pounds per month, on 4G with Wi-Fi calling but no 5G, and is available to new customers only. Unlimited Max, which carries a 500GB fair use cap, provides unlimited 5G data with unlimited calls and texts for twenty-three pounds per month, with additional family SIMs at ten pounds each.
