Switch from O2 to Vodafone

Keep your phone number when you switch from O2 to Vodafone. Here's how in 3 simple steps.

Updated July 2026

Switching from O2 to Vodafone moves you between two of the UK's big four mobile network operators, each running their own independent infrastructure. Vodafone offers strong 5G expansion across major UK cities and competitive bundle deals including broadband packages. The PAC code process makes switching quick and painless, with your number transferring in under a day.

Important Warning

Do NOT cancel your contract manually. If you cancel before transferring your number, you will lose it permanently. Your old contract will automatically cancel once the transfer completes.

Pre-Switch Checklist

  • Back up your data: Contacts, voicemails, and saved messages won't transfer.
  • Unlock your phone: Ensure it's not locked to your old network if you plan to keep using it.
  • Check Early Termination Fees: Text INFO to 85075 to see if you'll incur charges for leaving early.

How to Switch from O2 to Vodafone

1

Get your PAC code from O2

Text PAC to 65075 from your O2 mobile to receive your PAC code via SMS within seconds. If you prefer, call O2 on 202 from your O2 handset or on 0344 809 0202 from a different phone. You can also request the code online by logging in at accounts.o2.co.uk. The code is valid for 30 days.

2

Give your PAC to Vodafone

Head to vodafone.co.uk to browse and select your new Vodafone plan, visit a Vodafone store, or call 0333 304 0191. During the order process, choose to keep your existing number and enter your O2 PAC code. Vodafone will process the port once your new SIM is dispatched or your eSIM is activated.

3

Wait 1 working day

Your phone number will move from O2 to Vodafone within 1 working day. You will receive an SMS on your new Vodafone SIM once the switch is finalised. Your O2 account is cancelled automatically at that point, and O2 will issue a final bill for any outstanding balance.

Transfer Cut-off Times: Submitting your PAC code before 5:30 PM usually means your number will transfer the next working day. Submitting it after 5:30 PM or on weekends/bank holidays will add an extra working day to the process.

Final Bill: You'll receive a final bill from O2 shortly after the transfer is complete. This covers your usage up to the date of the switch.

Things to Check Before Switching

Check your remaining O2 contract term — if you are still within the minimum period, you will need to pay an early termination fee. Redeem any O2 Priority rewards or vouchers before switching, as these will be lost once your account closes. Make sure your handset is network-unlocked to work on Vodafone.

Different Network Coverage

O2 and Vodafone operate on entirely separate networks, so you may notice differences in signal strength and data speeds depending on your location. Vodafone's 5G rollout is concentrated in major urban centres, while O2 has a slightly different footprint. Use Vodafone's coverage checker at vodafone.co.uk/network/status-checker before committing to a plan.

O2 to Vodafone FAQ

Do I need to unlock my O2 phone to use it on Vodafone?
If your O2 phone was purchased after December 2021, it should already be unlocked. Older devices may need unlocking, which O2 will do for free upon request via their website or customer service.
What happens to my O2 Priority perks when I switch?
O2 Priority rewards are tied to your O2 account and will no longer be available once your number transfers to Vodafone. Make sure to use any remaining rewards or vouchers before you switch.
Can I switch from O2 to Vodafone if I am still paying off my phone?
Yes, but you will need to continue paying off the device plan with O2 separately. Your airtime contract will be cancelled when the number ports, but any outstanding device payments remain due.
