Switch from O2 to EE
Keep your phone number when you switch from O2 to EE. Here's how in 3 simple steps.
Switching from O2 to EE moves you from the Telefónica network to the UK's largest 4G and 5G network, which is owned by BT. EE consistently ranks highly in independent speed tests and offers the widest 5G footprint across the country. The process takes just a few minutes to start and your number transfers within one working day.
Important Warning
Do NOT cancel your contract manually. If you cancel before transferring your number, you will lose it permanently. Your old contract will automatically cancel once the transfer completes.
Pre-Switch Checklist
- Back up your data: Contacts, voicemails, and saved messages won't transfer.
- Unlock your phone: Ensure it's not locked to your old network if you plan to keep using it.
- Check Early Termination Fees: Text INFO to 85075 to see if you'll incur charges for leaving early.
How to Switch from O2 to EE
Get your PAC code from O2
Text PAC to 65075 from your O2 phone to receive your PAC code instantly via SMS. Alternatively, you can request it by calling O2 on 202 from your O2 handset (or 0344 809 0202 from any other phone), or by logging in at accounts.o2.co.uk and navigating to the PAC request section. Your PAC code is valid for 30 days.
Give your PAC to EE
Sign up for your new EE plan online at ee.co.uk, in an EE store, or by calling 0800 079 8586. During the sign-up process, select the option to keep your existing number and enter the PAC code you received from O2. EE will handle the rest of the transfer automatically.
Wait 1 working day
Your number will transfer from O2 to EE within 1 working day, usually completing the same day. You will receive a text confirmation when the switch is complete. Your O2 contract will be automatically cancelled once the number ports across, and any final bill from O2 will be sent to you separately.
Transfer Cut-off Times: Submitting your PAC code before 5:30 PM usually means your number will transfer the next working day. Submitting it after 5:30 PM or on weekends/bank holidays will add an extra working day to the process.
Final Bill: You'll receive a final bill from O2 shortly after the transfer is complete. This covers your usage up to the date of the switch.
Things to Check Before Switching
Check whether you are still within your O2 contract, as you may have to pay an early termination fee. Make sure your O2 handset is unlocked so it will work on the EE network — O2 phones purchased after December 2021 should already be unlocked. Back up any data stored on O2 services like O2 Cloud before switching.
Different Network Coverage
O2 and EE run on completely separate network infrastructures, so your coverage experience may differ. EE generally offers faster data speeds and broader 5G coverage, but it is worth checking EE's coverage checker at coverage.three.co.uk to verify signal at your home and workplace before making the switch.
