Switch from giffgaff to O2

Keep your phone number when you switch from giffgaff to O2. Here's how in 3 simple steps.

Updated July 2026

Switching from giffgaff to O2 is an unusual move because giffgaff already runs on O2's network infrastructure, meaning your coverage and signal strength will remain essentially identical. However, O2 offers benefits that giffgaff does not, including access to O2 Priority rewards, in-store support, and bundled extras like Disney+ or Apple Music on selected plans.

Important Warning

Do NOT cancel your contract manually. If you cancel before transferring your number, you will lose it permanently. Your old contract will automatically cancel once the transfer completes.

Pre-Switch Checklist

  • Back up your data: Contacts, voicemails, and saved messages won't transfer.
  • Unlock your phone: Ensure it's not locked to your old network if you plan to keep using it.
  • Check Early Termination Fees: Text INFO to 85075 to see if you'll incur charges for leaving early.

How to Switch from giffgaff to O2

1

Get your PAC code from giffgaff

Text PAC to 65075 from your giffgaff SIM or request it through your giffgaff dashboard at giffgaff.com. Even though both networks use O2 infrastructure, you still need a PAC code to transfer your number. The code arrives by text within 60 seconds and is valid for 30 days.

2

Give your PAC to O2

Sign up for an O2 plan online, visit an O2 store, or call 0344 809 0202. Select the option to keep your existing number and provide your PAC code. O2 will process the transfer even though you are technically already on their network masts.

3

Wait 1 working day

Your number will transfer to O2 within 1 working day. You will get a confirmation text on your new O2 SIM once the switch is done. Your giffgaff service will end automatically and any remaining credit will be forfeited.

Transfer Cut-off Times: Submitting your PAC code before 5:30 PM usually means your number will transfer the next working day. Submitting it after 5:30 PM or on weekends/bank holidays will add an extra working day to the process.

Final Bill: You'll receive a final bill from giffgaff shortly after the transfer is complete. This covers your usage up to the date of the switch.

Things to Check Before Switching

Since both giffgaff and O2 share the same network, your coverage will not change. The main differences are in plan pricing, customer service access, and extras like O2 Priority. Check whether the O2 plan you choose offers better value than your current giffgaff goodybag. Use up remaining giffgaff credit before switching.

Same Network Coverage

Because giffgaff operates as an MVNO on O2's network, your mobile coverage will be virtually identical after switching. The same masts, the same signal strength, the same 4G and 5G availability. The differences are purely in pricing, plan structure, and added perks.
