About the Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

The Poco X3 Pro earned its reputation on one unusual decision: Xiaomi fitted it with the Snapdragon 860, a rebadged former flagship chip, at a price where rivals were shipping ordinary mid-range silicon. The result was a phone that ran demanding games far better than anything else in its class, and that gap has aged well. Pair that with a 120Hz screen, a 5,160mAh battery and 33W charging and you get a genuinely fast handset for people who care about frame rates more than photographs. The compromises are real, though. The display is IPS LCD rather than AMOLED, so blacks look grey next to the Redmi Note 10 Pro's panel. The cameras took a step backwards from the X3 NFC, dropping to a 48MP main and a weak 8MP ultrawide. At 215g and 9.4mm it is a heavy, thick phone. Most importantly for UK buyers, there is no 5G at all, and Xiaomi has stopped issuing updates. It remains a gaming-first bargain rather than an all-rounder.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Poco X3 Pro worth buying?
The Poco X3 Pro is worth buying second hand if gaming performance is your priority and you accept the trade-offs. Its Snapdragon 860 still outruns many newer budget phones, but it has no 5G, an LCD rather than AMOLED screen, mediocre cameras and no remaining software support. For anything other than gaming, a newer budget handset makes more sense.
Does the Poco X3 Pro support 5G?
No. The Snapdragon 860 is a 4G-only chipset, so the Poco X3 Pro cannot connect to UK 5G networks. That was a deliberate trade Xiaomi made to fit a much faster processor into the price, but it is the single biggest reason to think twice about it now.
Is the Poco X3 Pro good for gaming?
Yes, it is one of the strongest budget gaming phones of its generation. The Snapdragon 860 handles demanding titles at high settings, the 120Hz screen with 240Hz touch sampling keeps controls responsive, and the 5,160mAh battery lasts through long sessions. It does get warm under sustained load.
Does the Poco X3 Pro have a headphone jack?
Yes, it keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside stereo speakers and an IR blaster for controlling TVs and set-top boxes. There is also a microSD slot, so the 128GB or 256GB of internal storage can be expanded.
How good is the Poco X3 Pro camera?
Average at best. The 48MP main sensor is fine in daylight but struggles once light drops, and the 8MP ultrawide is a step down from the 13MP lens on the older X3 NFC. The 2MP macro and depth sensors contribute very little. Buy this phone for its speed, not its photography.
Should I get the Poco X3 Pro or the Poco X3 NFC?
The X3 Pro is substantially faster thanks to its Snapdragon 860 and quicker UFS 3.1 storage, making it the better choice for gaming. The older X3 NFC actually has the better camera set-up, with a 64MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide rather than 8MP. Everything else, including the 6.67-inch 120Hz screen, 5,160mAh battery and 215g weight, is effectively identical. Compare Poco X3 NFC deals.
