About the Xiaomi Leica Leitzphone

The Leica Leitzphone is Xiaomi's collector's-edition flagship, announced alongside the global Xiaomi 17 series in February 2026. Under the skin it is the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in Leica dress: the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, the same 6.9-inch LTPO display and the same triple camera built around a 1-inch-type 50MP main sensor and a 200MP periscope telephoto. What you are paying extra for is presentation and control. The rear panel is finished entirely in black with Leica branding on a rotated camera island, and a physical rotating Leica Camera Ring on the back adjusts zoom and exposure, which is a genuinely different way of shooting from tapping a screen. Leica Essential mode adds looks modelled on classic Leica cameras such as the M3 and M9. It comes in one configuration only, 16GB of RAM with 1TB of storage, so there is no cheaper entry point. This is a photographer's indulgence rather than a value flagship, and buyers who want the same photos for less should look at the standard Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Xiaomi Leica Leitzphone worth buying?
It is worth buying if you want the Xiaomi 17 Ultra camera experience with Leica styling and the rotating Camera Ring, and you value that enough to accept a single 16GB/1TB configuration. Performance and photo quality mirror the standard 17 Ultra, so anyone shopping purely on capability rather than presentation is better served by that model.
How is the Leica Leitzphone different from the Xiaomi 17 Ultra?
The core hardware is shared: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 6.9-inch LTPO display with 3,500 nits peak brightness, the same triple Leica camera system and a 6,000mAh battery. The Leitzphone differs in its all-black rear with rotated Leica branding, a physical rotating Leica Camera Ring, Leica Essential shooting modes and a single 16GB RAM and 1TB storage version.
How good is the Leica Leitzphone camera?
On paper it is as capable as anything on the market. The rear system pairs a 50MP 1-inch-type main camera with a 200MP periscope telephoto covering a 75-100mm range and a 50MP ultrawide, all co-developed with Leica, alongside a 50MP selfie camera. Leica Essential mode recreates the look of classic Leica bodies including the M3 and M9.
What is the Leica Camera Ring on the Leitzphone?
It is a physical ring that rotates on the back of the camera island, used to adjust zoom and exposure without touching the screen. It is the phone's most distinctive feature and closer in feel to operating a camera lens than a smartphone.
Does the Leica Leitzphone charge quickly and is it waterproof?
Yes on both counts. It supports 90W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge from its 6,000mAh battery, and it carries an IP68 rating, with Xiaomi quoting immersion to 6m for 30 minutes rather than the more common 1.5m.
Does the Leica Leitzphone have expandable storage or a headphone jack?
No to both. There is no microSD slot and no 3.5mm jack, so you are fixed at the 1TB of internal storage and will need USB-C or wireless headphones. Wired and wireless Hi-Res Audio and stereo speakers are supported.

Based on main-sensor size (1-inch / 1/1.3" beats 1/2.0"), telephoto reach (periscope > 5x > 3x optical), image processing tier (Apple Pro, Pixel Pro, Galaxy Ultra, Honor Magic Pro, Xiaomi Ultra), pro video features (ProRes, Apple Log, Dolby Vision), camera-partnership branding (Leica, Hasselblad, Zeiss) and OIS. Older flagships are de-rated since image processing pipelines have advanced significantly each generation. Megapixel count is deliberately downweighted — it correlates poorly with real-world camera quality. Where DXOMARK has lab-tested the phone, its measured score replaces this estimate.

Based on battery capacity (mAh) adjusted for platform efficiency calibrated against NotebookCheck, Tom's Guide, GSMArena and CNET reviewer tests. Apple A-series gets +45% (iOS process freezing + LTPO 1Hz + tuned panels make iPhone Pro Max outlast many 6500+ mAh Android phones in measured tests). Top Snapdragon / Dimensity flagships get +15%, budget chipsets are penalised −15% to −25% to reflect less efficient displays and looser background limits. Charging speed is excluded — see the separate Fast charging tag for that.
